Mobile, Alabama - The Voices of Gospel Music Awards (VOGMA) marked its 9th anniversary in style over the weekend, bringing together talented independent gospel music artists and their supporters from across the country. The event, held annually the weekend after Labor Day, has grown to become a significant celebration within the gospel music community, recognizing the contributions of independent artists who often operate outside the mainstream industry spotlight.
The celebration was a heartfelt homage to the nominees, many of whom traveled considerable distances to participate in this year’s festivities. Chairman and Founder Pastor Gary Johnson expressed his gratitude to all nominees, emphasizing that every participant is a winner in their own right. “Every nominee is a winner, regardless if their name is called,” he told the audience, strengthening the spirit of camaraderie and support among attendees.
Some of the top winners of the 9th Year Ceremony was gospel artists such as Darius Darling, Trey Williams, Living Testimony Community Singers, EJ The Mimer, and Trinity 1 Sound, just to name a few.
During the ceremony, Pastor Johnson announced a change to the traditional timing of the event, which will now be celebrated in May instead of September. This shift aims to enhance participation and impact within the gospel music community. “I want it to be great and want more people to participate and be part of our celebration. In 2025, we are planning a celebration the artist way,” Johnson stated, setting the stage for the forthcoming milestones.
The 2025 Voices of Gospel Music Awards will signal a decade of service to independent gospel artists, with the event scheduled to take place from May 29 to 31, 2025. Nominations for this grand celebration will open on October 1, 2024. “We want all independent gospel artists to get in on this celebration, participate, and be part of a ceremony and event that honors them,” Pastor Johnson encouraged.
As excitement builds for the milestone occasion, the Voices of Gospel Music Awards has introduced a new logo, alongside a special logo commemorating the 10th anniversary. The organization’s website has also received a fresh look, reflecting its commitment to evolve and engage more effectively with the gospel music community.
The 9th Annual VOGMA was not just an awards ceremony; it was a testament to the resilience and creativity of independent gospel artists who pour their hearts into their music. With a decade of service ahead, the organization is poised to make an even greater impact, continuing to honor the voices that inspire and uplift through gospel music.
